All these bulletin points really resonate with me. I often need to stop and reframe my my perspective, to remind myself of how many older people keep telling me their lives improved with age, not the opposite, as our ageist culture would have us believe.

So glad it resonated, Sari. It’s funny, I think just knowing instinctively that we need to stop and remind ourselves to reframe is another way age makes us better! And it’s crazy how the cultural messaging can imprint and impact our thinking/feeling even when we know better...

"Midlife" is a period at odds with itself. We are young, compared to our parents, but we are old when we look in the mirror. 50 is not 40. Our bodies do a great job of reminding us of that. On the flip side, my brain has never been so free to run. I am astounded at how much more room I have to think now that the kids are all in and out of college (I have three daughters, two have graduated college and one is a junior). I know I am not the only one experiencing this new gear because I interview women all the time who are diving headlong into new passions. I love midlife

I love this perspective, Kim, and yes, it's amazing how the world opens up at this stage. Even with the more challenging aspects of aging, on balance there's just so much that's good and empowering and freeing. I am with you- I love midlife! Thanks so much for reading (and subscribing!)...

Thank you, Dina! Now if I could get my husband to feel the same way about aging as I do...not as easy for the men folk, I think.

Right?! It's honestly been so critical to my growth and expansion- truly one of the best gifts of age...

Oh Dina, so much of this resonates DEEPLY (and I’m SO sorry to hear of your “passive sleep injury” - hope you are healing fast and well!) “I am not afraid to fail- Much like the need for perfection sometimes held me back, so too did the fear of failure.” I’ve really been working on this, too (work in progress!), and so much for the hesitation comes from worrying about what others think (ditto, gah!). Thank you Jenni! And I am right there with you- always a work in progress, and on the harder days, I try to remind myself of all that is good and of how far I have come- a reframe to save the day! xx

Yes, that's a great one! I was thinking that so many of these things have led me to being more open and therefore, more able to connect, which gets to the soul of friendship. And DITTO xx

If I had to say what I find the best thing to be about aging it's that I like myself and understand myself more now than ever. Maybe it's evolution, personal change or acceptance. Whatever it is, I'm happy to have this chance to age, and make lists, and set goals and find where the next journey will be while also taking a deep dive into how to maneuver life well. My favorite is #8 with #10 a close second! I think many younger women would appreciate reading this :)

I love that- the deepening of the relationship with ourselves, the self love, has such a ripple effect on our lives! It helps us make better choices, find new meaning, make new friends, etc.! Eternally grateful the universe put us in each other’s midlife path…

Thank you so much- some days I find #13 takes a lot of mindful effort, especially in this world full of distractions! But I find so much joy in everyday life- in the simple things- when I am present. ❤️
